Just how widespread is support for Afghan evacuees? Well, we mapped it
out.Â
Literally.Â
See our interactive map of welcome across America.
Â
Since news first broke of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, we've
been keeping an eye on the American response - and the support we've
seen has been overwhelming. Â
Communities across the country have rallied together to find creative
ways to show their support for incoming Afghan evacuees. In Tulsa, OK,
volunteers cooked traditional Afghan meals to show their love. In
DuBois, PA
,
a local business owner designed and sold patriotic t-shirts to help
raise money for refugees. In Syracuse, NY
,
an ROTC student petitioned his campus to offer scholarships to potential
Afghan students.Â
We took all these stories (and many more like them) and placed them on a
map to show just how widespread support for Afghan refugees is. Stories
came from all 50 states and even some other parts of the world.Â
Search for stories of support from your community with our interactive
map,
 then
take action to tell Congress to pass an Afghan Adjustment Act.
Â
Yet even with all of this widespread support, there's still one
critical thing missing for many Afghan evacuees: a pathway to permanent
immigration status, which would mean the difference between prolonged
instability and a real chance to rebuild new lives in the U.S. That's
why we support congressional action like an Afghan Adjustment Act
.Â
As you browse these local stories of welcome, take a moment to think
about what it means to support incoming immigrants and refugees. And if
you're looking for ways to support Afghan evacuees yourself, tell your
members of Congress that you support an Afghan Adjustment Act.
