John,
Occasionally I would show up to a varsity soccer game and one of the players on the opposing team would be assigned to mark me. I trained hard for those games. As soon as I realized that someone was going to be tracking me all over the field, I made it my job to get them to ask for a sub.
One game, the opposing coach decided to have two players mark me. Every time I got the ball, they would start screaming my name. It frustrated a lot of my teammates because the coach's strategy wasn't to out play my team, it was to psych me out. And frankly, it was a dirty move. In a moment of annoyance, one of my teammates screamed at the ref that the other team was trying to get in my head. I locked eyes with one of the girls marking me and called to the ref over their noise, "it's alright ref! I like my name!"
The girls didn't say another peep the rest of the game. At halftime, one of my teammates asked me if our opponents screaming my name had bothered me. I said of course it had. But I wasn't going to let them see me sweat.
In regards to our current race, I'm starting to sweat.
I just got off the phone with our election lawyer. Pennsylvania's redistricting is in utter disarray. The Congressional districts still haven't been decided on yet. The PA Supreme Court flexed its "king's bench" power and took the redistricting battle off the lower courts hands.
The lower court made some recommendations including a recommendation that the window to collect petition signatures be narrowed to two weeks to keep the primary election on time. In order to collect the number of signatures we need within that window, we're going to need to hire petitioners on top of our election lawyer. On top of that, we are anticipating a challenge from our opponent to the signatures we do end up submitting, which will cost us thousands of dollars to fight this challenge in court.
I'm sweating just writing this.
Getting on the ballot is going to be expensive and urgent, but you better believe I'm going to be on there. We're assembling a team and rallying the troops, but we're all on edge. The anticipated fees for fighting our way on to the ballot are $20,000 and up.
