This was a direct violation of the Presidential Records Act, which dictates that all Presidential records are public property. This is a key measure of transparency, and the former President’s deliberate action of destroying evidence shows a clear disregard for decency and the standard for officials elected to the office of the presidency.
President Trump is not the only Republican attempting to dodge the consequences of his actions. Members of the House GOP have made it clear that if they take the House in November, they would immediately shut down the January 6th Committee — removing any chance of oversight and accountability for those who incited the deadly insurrection.
