I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported me on my run for Congress.
It's been a true honor to have met, spoken with, corresponded by mail and over social media with so many good people who also see our country going down a scary path.
All of that changed in the past couple years — especially after witnessing the violent insurrection that took place on January 6th.
Every American watched the Republican "leader" betray his oath of office, "to defend the Constitution against ALL enemies foreign and DOMESTIC." This was an oath I took at 17 when I joined the U.S. Navy and the same oath my father took as a WWII Veteran.
I was even more appalled by McCarthy's actions to overturn the Election just hours after the violence of that insurrection. I also saw a district that has been horribly neglected and ignored by that same representative for over a decade.
It was ALWAYS going to be an uphill battle to compete as a Democrat in a VERY Red district against someone who is bankrolled by big corporations and wealthy donors with tens of millions, but the hope was always that redistricting would provide a more level playing field.
Sadly, the exact opposite occurred, grossly protecting the incumbent.
This leaves me no viable path forward. After consulting with my team and trusted friends, I have decided to suspend my campaign for Congress.
I can assure you this — I will continue to be a vocal defender of our sacred American democracy, and support those who put country before party.
Respectfully,
Bruno Amato
