Earlier this week, the Democratic House of Representatives passed the Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault & Sexual Harassment Act . This bill has since been passed by the Senate and will soon be brought to President Biden’s desk for his signature.

This Act will change the way private companies handle sexual assault and harassment cases by ending the use of forced arbitration, a tool often used by corporate America to sweep cases of sexual assault under the rug in the wake of the #MeToo Movement.

This win for women was a long time coming. The bill was first introduced by Senators Gillibrand and Graham four long years ago — when Mitch McConnell was the Senate Majority leader, and Donald Trump’s signature would be required for passage. It took four years and Democratic majorities in both the House and the Senate for this bill to become a political reality.

Democrats made a promise to advance women’s rights — from ending forced arbitration to protecting reproductive freedom — and now, Democrats are delivering. But women should not have to wait four more years for the next leap forward. And frankly, when it comes to reproductive freedom, women cannot afford to wait four more years for Congressional action.
