Friends -

There may be considerable partisan division on many issues in this country, but if there is one issue that Democrats, Independents, and even Republicans agree on— it’s that we must take action to make our communities safer from gun violence.

In Maryland, someone is killed with a gun every 13 hours.

That loss of life represents far more than a number. It’s an epidemic that extinguishes human potential and leaves an unfillable hole in the lives of loved ones left behind.

In Maryland we took decisive action after Sandy Hook to ban certain types of firearms and keep guns out of the hands of criminals. And we banned bump stocks after the tragedy in Las Vegas.

But today, we face a new threat: ghost guns. These are guns sold as untraceable component parts that can be easily assembled by the purchaser at home. All they need is a credit card and a shipping address.

Last May, the Baltimore City Police Commissioner said the department had seen a 300 percent increase in the number of ghost guns seized.

There’s a bill in the state legislature that would ban ghost guns in Maryland, and I’ve introduced a bill in the Senate that would do the same.

Today, I am asking you to add your name in support of my bill:

Can you sign my petition urging Congress to pass my bill banning ghost guns? This is about saving lives and making our communities safer from gun violence.

The horror and daily toll of gun violence will continue until Congress has the courage to stand up to the NRA and act. We’ve taken action in Maryland, but our state is not an island. We need federal action for our laws to work fully.

Onward,

Chris
