John: Remember how exciting caller ID was back in the day? Maybe when you were a kid, like I was, running to the telephone to see who was calling? Or even as an adult when caller ID was a brand-new thing?

Bear with me; I promise the novelty of caller ID actually has to do with my campaign for Senate and why I'm so determined to defeat Sen. Grassley (R) here in Iowa.

I had a few names memorized when I was a kid, but there was one I knew from the age of 10: Dad's business agent. When that name showed up on caller ID, it meant that there was work for my dad – a union pipefitter-welder. On the days and weeks that name didn't show up, it meant the opposite. It meant Mom and Dad had to worry about having enough to pay the bills.

John, I'm in this race to be a champion for families like mine – because for years, Iowa's families have not found an ally in Sen. Chuck Grassley. He's failed again and again to stand up for workers, choosing instead to align himself with wealthy corporate interests and the conspiracy theories of the former president.

If Sen. Grassley won't show up for America's families, it's time to send someone to the Senate who will. That's why nobody will work harder than I will to defeat him, but I need your help. Sen. Grassley has the backing of the Senate Republicans’ campaign arm, which has more than $39 million in its campaign war chest, but I'm relying on a grassroots movement to power us to victory. I'm relying on your support.

If you believe that working class families deserve a stronger voice in Congress – and if you want Democrats to retain the Senate majority – then please make a grassroots contribution of whatever you can spare before tonight's midnight deadline. Our fight grows stronger with every grassroots contribution, and together, we can defeat Sen. Grassley and win in Iowa.

John, I'll never forget being at a union event with my dad a few years back and him saying, "I think I'm the first person in my family who has worked in the building trades to live long enough to get my pension." That really stuck with me – and it's why I fought so hard in Congress to ensure people are paid a fair wage and can be taken care of if they're hurt on the job.

I really appreciate your support.

Abby
