Dear John,
Last week I stopped in Manitowoc to meet with Sachin Shivaram, CEO of the Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry and toured the facility. We shared a commitment to building a more dignified economy – an economy in which workers have the training to get fulfilling, well-paid jobs, and Wisconsin businesses can hire the skilled workers they need to succeed. This is why I am committed to tuition-free technical and vocational training and expanding apprenticeships. Touring the Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry in Manitowoc with CEO Sachin Shivaram From Manitowoc, we drove to Howard, WI - just a short drive from Lambeau Field in Green Bay. Former Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton and public education leaders hosted an electric event focused on how we can change the business model of politics. We need to change the incentives governing why we don’t have good options in politics. It has become too profitable for politicians to spew hate, divide us up, and polarize our society.
I shared my passion for campaign finance reform based on what I saw during my time in Washington, D.C. as Founder and CEO of the Millennial Action Project. Rather than devoting themselves to serving as inclusive legislators, many members of Congress have become hyper-partisan telemarketers – dialing for dollars to raise money for their re-election campaigns instead of doing the job we, as taxpayers, pay them to do. We need to ban members of Congress from fundraising while they’re in session and I will introduce legislation in the U.S. Senate to make this happen.
With your support, we can win this election and enact these changes in Congress. We can make Wisconsin a beacon of democracy and a force for positive change in our nation.
Thank you for supporting our campaign, Steven Speaking with Green Bay event attendees last week.
For too long, powerful forces have divided us against each other and left our most vulnerable communities behind. Help us build a new, inclusive and compassionate path forward for Wisconsin, one that champions dignity and opportunity for all. We can meet this moment and change how we do politics.
