Watsco reported fourth-quarter earnings of $78.9 million on revenue of $1.51 billion, both up from a year earlier. The distributor also reported full-year profit of $418.9 million on revenue of $6.28 billion.

The federal government plans to investigate the warehouse and logistics industry's pay and time-off practices in light of the use of contract staff. "One of our biggest challenges is that there are business models that are designed specifically to call a worker an independent contractor in order to avoid the payment of minimum wage and overtime," says Jessica Looman, acting administrator for the Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division.
