Friend,

Adam Schiff is no Wizard of Oz, but he sure acts like it.

For 49 days, Chairman Schiff has led Democrats' impeachment investigation in secret, without due process and relying on cherry-picked leaks to shape the narrative on impeachment. And like the Wizard of Oz, he has asked the American people to pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

This process produced more than a hundred hours of testimony from 15 witnesses – none of which the American people could observe. This is not the open and fair process our country deserves, especially when considering impeachment of the president of the United States.

Nevertheless, after 49 days, 15 witnesses and a hundred hours of testimony, Adam Schiff is no longer 'the great and powerful Wizard of Oz.'

This week House Democrats continue their impeachment crusade with their first public hearings. But instead of scrapping testimony so far collected in this sham process, Democrats are now using it as a foundation for the next phase of their investigation. Unfortunately, moving the process into public view does not change its illegitimate start. And while the public will now for the first time be able to see the impeachment proceedings, some things just don’t change.

Like the closed-door impeachment inquiry run by Chairman Adam Schiff, the now-public process remains unfair and one-sided. There is still no co-equal subpoena power, due process for the president or guarantee to hear Republican witnesses. While Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Schiff have said impeachment needs to be a bipartisan effort, this process ensures this investigation remains a partisan sham.

Sadly, as Congress returns to Washington with just a few weeks remaining in the year, our to-do list only gets longer while Democrats pour more and more resources into their impeachment crusade. As public impeachment hearings are sure to become the publicity frenzy that Democrats and the media want, I’m focused on important priorities like the USMCA trade deal, lower prescription drug prices, and retirement security.

Will you help me continue to fight for these priorities? Please chip in $5, $10, or $20 and let’s send a message to Adam Schiff that like the Wizard of Oz, impeachment is just a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

Sincerely,

Rep. Ron Estes
