Advocates Call for FDIC, Under New Leadership, to Stop Banks from Fronting for Predatory Lenders
With a new chairman taking the helm of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) joined with more than a dozen other organizations in calling for the FDIC to “stop permitting its supervised institutions to front for predatory lenders evading state interest rate limits.” [Read more ([link removed]) ]

Dozens Of Community Groups Call On Regulators To Reject Blockchain Startup Figure’s Bank Charter Application

NCRC 2020 Home Mortgage Report: Examining Shifts During COVID-19

In this paper, the National Community Reinvestment Coalition’s Research and Racial Economic Equity teams completed a broad and detailed analysis of 2020 Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data. Our analysis revealed how the private mortgage lending market is failing to serve economically insecure households of color. This reinforces the racial divide in homeownership which props up the growing racial wealth divide. [Read more ([link removed]) ]

Does Perceived Socio-Economic Status Impact Access to Credit in the Small Business Arena?

Fed, OCC Set Public Hearing on U.S. Bank-Union Bank Deal

The bank has been meeting with community groups like the National Community Reinvestment Coalition during the process. “It is good for regulators to scrutinize bank mergers to ensure they will benefit the communities affected by such deals,” NCRC Chief Executive Jess Van Tol said in an email Monday. “We are glad that this public hearing will give those communities a chance to share their thoughts on the proposed deal.” [Read more ([link removed]) ]

A Black Doctor Says She Was Refused Service at a Bank Because of Her Race: ‘I Felt Like a Criminal’

A 2019 study by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition found that minority business owners are scrutinized more harshly and treated worse than White counterparts with lower credit scores when meeting with bankers about loans. According to the study, White test subjects were treated better by employees and asked fewer questions about their eligibility for a loan. Black applicants, however, were more frequently asked about their education level, credit and personal finances. [Read more ([link removed]) ]
