Democrats Accuse Their Opponents Of ‘Jim Crow 2.0’ While Openly Supporting Racial Discrimination <[link removed]> - The “Jim Crow” label is being thrown out a lot these days by those on the left, including Joe Biden. They use it to smear those who dare oppose their radical policies. Yet if that label comes close to fitting anyone today, it’s the left. They are the ones who have implemented a discriminatory racial-spoils system in government and academic institutions throughout the country. Democrats’ racial preferences have much more in common with Jim Crow than what Biden likes to call “Jim Crow 2.0,” referring to benign Republican efforts to ensure election integrity. Biden’s border and Ukraine crisis <[link removed]> - Biden’s policies have created a massive flow of illegal immigration that has destroyed security along our southern border and imperils our own national sovereignty. Critics asked how Biden could justify rushing thousands of troops to assist Ukraine and defend the borders of NATO, yet stubbornly neglect the chaos at our border. It’s a fair question. But it’s a question that misses the linkage between the border crisis here and the border crisis in Ukraine. The common factor in both our border crisis and the Ukraine crisis is the feckless leadership of Joe Biden. The last president showed that there are policy solutions to both porous borders and Putin’s saber-rattling. President Biden needs to change course and resume those effective policies, starting now. Time for the School Choice Movement to Embrace the Culture War <[link removed]> - A recent case in point: MacKenzie Scott <[link removed]>, the ex-wife of Amazon
mega-billionaire Jeff Bezos, recently gave <[link removed]>$133 million to Communities in Schools, an organization that believes schools should do more than educate. It wants schools to become one-stop megastores for government-provided social and health services. An army of counselors, therapists, dentists, nurses, financial planners and social workers would be marshaled at your neighborhood school to win the war on poverty. CIS does not simply believe that the government should provide families with all of these services, but, importantly, that these services should be provided in schools. Their theory is that unless schools address a host of social ills first, they cannot make progress in their traditional educational responsibilities. Heritage Expert: Jay Greene <[link removed]>
It’s a Bad Idea to Tap Medicare to Bail Out Postal Service <[link removed]> - The U.S. Postal Service is in trouble. So Congress is coming to the rescue by debating a proposed “Postal Service Reform Act” (HR 3076 <[link removed]>)
to “stabilize” the independent agency’s financing and put it on a path of fiscal responsibility. But although the legislation passed Tuesday by the House and now before the Senate might end up digging the Postal Service out of a fiscal
hole <[link removed]>, it would worsen Medicare’s already weakened financial condition. The operation is an annual multibillion-dollar loser, but Americans depend on the U.S. mail and are happy to get it, even when it is inexplicably late. Among the biggest issues facing the Postal Service is how to handle the large chunk of unfunded obligations for retirees’ health benefits. These liabilities amount to a whopping $75 <[link removed]>billion, the amount of benefits promised but not financed. Heritage Expert: Robert Moffit <[link removed]>
School Assigns Seventh Graders to Read Novel Glamorizing Illegal Immigration <[link removed]> - A Virginia parent says his seventh grade daughter was assigned to read a book meant to “elicit sympathy” for illegal immigrants <[link removed]>. At the end of January, Michael Erickson’s daughter and her classmates were assigned the 2007 novel “Crossing the Wire <[link removed]>” by Will Hobbs. The novel promotes <[link removed]> a
“leftist-leaning philosophy that we should just open up the borders and take whoever we want,” Erickson told The Daily Signal during a phone interview Tuesday. Unless “media attention is brought to bear” on what is occurring in public schools, “then nothing changes and nothing is affected,” Erickson told The Daily Signal. “Everybody’s complaints or objections [are] shooed away to the side,” he said, and the schools “continue to storm forward doing whatever they want.” Heritage Expert: Virginia
