Landmark report shines light on Chinese “long arm” repression of Uyghurs

A landmark report published by Index on Censorship this week highlights the shocking extent of Chinese attempts to repress Uyghurs living in countries across Europe – including the UK. The report, compiled over months of detailed research and gathering of personal testimony, shows how the “long arm” of the Chinese Communist Party is silencing ethnic Uyghurs.

Limiting debate and sanitising our online lives through regulation simply masks the tensions, divisions and prejudices that exist in our societies rather than tackling the underlying causes, says our CEO Ruth Smeeth. This is not a counsel of despair, nor a position that says regulation shouldn’t exist.
