My background as a housing organizer is in direct action. Direct actions I co-led resulted in 200 shelter beds being added to Tacoma’s shelter network, along with other wins.
Direct action gets the goods.
That’s why I plan to combine my seat in Congress with direct action. When you apply pressure, suddenly the system finds itself able to do things that were “impossible” before.
For example, the City of Tacoma claimed it couldn’t provide trash service to homeless camps. So we picked up two moving trucks’ worth of trash from some camps and dumped it in front of City Hall. The trash was gone within hours. Voila!
What got us here won’t get us there. It’s the politicians in power right now who have gotten us to the brink of environmental collapse, mass homelessness, and 30 million people without healthcare.
We need new people with a new approach: electoral politics + direct action. That’s how I’m different from politicians who have let you down before.
