Funding Black Joy and Self-Care

Many staff at Black-led organizations are on the verge of burnout after two years of responding to the twin pandemics of COVID-19 and anti-Black racism. The Black Joy and Wellness Fund is one approach Seattle Foundation has taken to center the importance of wellbeing among these organizations and their staff. We awarded $ 540,000 to 29 organizations at the end of 2021.

COVID-19 Response Fund: ACRS addresses the intersection of racial equity and mental health

After a brief shut down during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Asian Counseling and Referral Services (ACRS) is proving to be a lifeline as the pandemic continues to harm families. Thanks to a grant from the COVID-19 Response Fund, ACRS can continue to support the community by providing a host of services, including delivery of meals and in-person medication management for vulnerable people and isolated seniors. N2N Spotlight: Wonder of Women International
Zoom doesn't do justice to the kind of space curated by Wonder of Women (WOW) International. The downtown Seattle gallery was one of 10 organizations funded by Neighbor to Neighbor in the fall of 2021. Its mission is to restore power and empower Black people by creating a beautiful sanctuary dedicated to Black love and art.

Opening the Door to a More Inclusive Society

Open Doors for Multicultural Families helps meet the needs of people with intellectual disabilities. Seattle Foundation has a long history of supporting their work, starting with Neighbor to Neighbor, providing one of Open Doors' first grants. In addition, open Doors has received funding through other Seattle Foundation programs, including the Vibrant Democracy Initiative, Communities of Opportunity.

New Seattle Foundation Board Members
Seattle Foundation is welcoming two new members to the Board of Trustees. Trish Millines Dziko <[link removed]> and Amy Carter <[link removed]> joined the board at the end of 2021. Dziko is the co-founder of the Technology Access Foundation, which partners with public schools to promote the highest level of student learning and increase the retention of educators of color in Washington State. Carter is the Director of Community Engagement at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and works to build partnerships that support equitable communities.

Seattle Foundation is proud that many of our champions and supporters are making an impact across various sectors. For example, board of Trustee Members Colleen Echohawk and Trish Millines Dziko are among Seattle Met’s top 100 most influential people in Seattle <[link removed]>.
