Hi team, Last week we highlighted our West Coast Future Forum members on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) 2022 Frontline Program List. Today, we are shifting over to our members in the Midwest: Rep. Lauren Underwood represents Illinois’ 14th Congressional District. Sworn into office in 2019, she serves on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and House Committee on Appropriations. As the co-founder of the Black Maternal Health Caucus, she focuses on elevating the Black maternal health crisis by advancing policy solutions that improve maternal health outcomes and end disparities. In 2020, she narrowly defeated Republican Jim Oberweis; however, with a newly redrawn district, she now faces a tough race that includes 4 Republican challengers. Rep. Sharice Davids, also serving since 2019, represents Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District and is the first LGBTQ Native American elected to Congress. She is a member of the House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure and House Committee on Small Business. As the only Democrat in Kansas’ congressional delegation, Republicans are targeting her by introducing a new map that will split a key county between two congressional districts to weaken her electoral prospects. Fortunately, Democratic Governor Laura Kelly vetoed the congressional map – but Republicans have not given up on overriding the governor’s veto.
Thank you for all you do, Future Forum |
