Last week, Republicans voted at their convention to categorize the events that took place at the Capitol on January 6, 2021 as “legitimate political discourse.” And now Mitch McConnell and Ronna McDaniel are doing their best to walk it back.

Regardless of all of this Republican mess, the bottom line here is this: Breaching the Capitol and trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power is not “discourse.”

When voters overwhelmingly rejected his failed leadership, Donald Trump couldn’t accept the results of the 2020 election, so he incited a violent mob on January 6, 2021 -- and now the GOP is running to his defense.

Any party that refers to insurrectionists who menaced the halls of Congress, threatened the lives of elected officials, and literally erected gallows on Capitol grounds as engaging in “legitimate political discourse” is too extreme to hold power. We can’t stand idly by as Republicans defend Donald Trump inciting a violent mob and in turn allow them to erode our democracy, so I have to ask:
