Today the South Dakota Senate took a vote on whether or not to discuss the Convention of States Resolution on the floor of the Senate.

In a sickening display of cowardice, they killed the resolution — refusing to even debate the issue.

We were just two votes away from victory, which would have made South Dakota the 18th state to join the COS movement.

Here’s what’s really outrageous. There is massive support for COS in the state. Talk to any Senator and they’ll tell you that their phones have been ringing off the hook with calls from concerned citizens who want SD to join the COS movement.

In the last year, our number of signed petitions in the state has nearly doubled.

Yet despite the clear voice of the people, Senate President Pro Temp Lee Schoenbeck and Senator David Johnson led the charge to kill our Resolution.

This isn’t the last they’ll hear from us.

This June, every state legislator in South Dakota will be up for re-election in the primaries. COS will be launching candidate surveys so that voters know exactly where each candidate stands on the issues — including Convention of States.

But it gets better. Thanks to today’s vote, now we have every sitting legislator in South Dakota on record. And in a few months, the people will get to decide who represents them in their legislature. Candidates have already started lining up to run against incumbents who refuse to listen to the people of South Dakota.
