Here’s what we know about the GOP strategy to manipulate the maps -- they have proven they are not only doubling down on their 2011 approach, but they are also willing to gamble our democracy to make it happen.
This is how they are tipping the scales in their favor:
→ ignoring public input (on everything from whether to hold virtual hearings to actual map feedback)
→ suppressing voting power -- specifically in communities of color
→ gerrymandering maps to eliminate competitive districts
Map manipulators think they can avoid accountability by polarizing elections and making people feel like their vote doesn’t matter.
As A.G. Holder said last week: "Efforts to weaken the power of the vote for select groups of people are unlawful and must not be tolerated -- not on our watch. We must and will act."
