LCLAA's National Latina Equal Pay Day Summit
Each year, the women's rights community highlights gender and racial wage gaps on various "equal pay days." The most well-known is National Equal Pay Day in April, when the earnings of women overall finally catch up to the earnings of men from the previous year. While women typically earn 80 cents for every dollar earned by men, the wage gap is even wider for women of color. Latinas have the largest wage gap. According to the most recent available data, Latinas are paid just 54 cents for every dollar earned by White, non-Hispanic men. This means they have to work nearly 23 months to earn what White men earn in 12 months.
Join LCLAA for the Latina Equal Pay Day National Summit: Forging our Future in Washington D.C., on November 20th to learn more about the inequality that Latinas face and to stand with Trabajadoras to demand equal and fair pay across occupations. Today's Labor Quote: Gil Scott Heron

What would Karen Silkwood say
If she was still alive?
That when it comes to people's safety
Money wins out every time.

From his song "We Almost Lost Detroit"; on this date in 1974, union activist Karen Silkwood was killed in a suspicious car crash on her way to deliver documents to a newspaper reporter during a safety investigation of the plutonium processing plant in Oklahoma where she worked.

Striking typesetters at the Green Bay, Wisc. Press Gazette start a competing newspaper, The Green Bay Daily News.
