. Our children deserve clean water Members like you are advocating for clean water standards. Hi John,
We are fighting to protect the health of our communities – particularly our children – from PFAS contamination in drinking water. You and I both know that our state can’t wait any longer to enact standards that protect and test what goes into Wisconsin’s water.
Our children’s future depends on it.
“Safe drinking water, surface water, and groundwater standards are inextricably woven into the fabric of safe water for all. Setting standards for all water sources is an investment that we must uphold. We cannot afford the tremendous price or the burden to delay action on this critical investment," says Lee Donahue, Supervisor for the Town of Campbell.
At the end of last year, our members signed a petition (which received 462 signatures) and testified at the three Department of Natural Resources (DNR) public hearings on groundwater, surface water, and drinking water in support of creating rules to protect our water. Your actions helped us build public pressure that the DNR board heard loud and clear.
Now, the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board will vote on those standards on Feb. 23.
Establishing Water Standards I can’t stress enough how important it is that we establish standards on the state level that require regular water testing and limit the chemicals large manufacturers are dumping into our water. Passing these rules is a necessary first step, but to truly take on this issue, we need to pass the CLEAR Act.
If our state doesn’t take action now, it could be years before there are national water standards and big polluters like Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) will continue to avoid accountability.
Our children, our families, and our communities deserve a cleaner future. Thanks for being in this fight with us, Peter Burress Government Affairs Manager Wisconsin Conservation Voters |
