They did it again. On Monday night the right-wing extremists now in charge of the Supreme Court pulled off another naked power grab by blocking a lower court ruling requiring Republicans in Alabama to fairly draw the state’s congressional map, so it would no longer dilute the power of Black voters in direct violation of the Voting Rights Act.
To put it plainly: Alabama Republicans tried to enact a racial gerrymander, a lower court stopped them, and then the right-wing extremists now running this rigged Supreme Court let them do it anyway.
It’s no secret that the Roberts Court has been on a mission to destroy voting rights as we know them. In just the last decade the Court has gutted the Voting Rights Act (twice), greenlit partisan gerrymandering, and more — opening the door to the voter suppression laws we’re seeing passed around the country today.

Unless we take action, the Court’s assault on our rights and democracy will only get worse. But we are not powerless to stop these attacks: the Judiciary Act will add 4 seats to the Supreme Court — immediately restoring balance and integrity to the bench.
Now more than ever we must continue the fight to pass this bill and ensure that 6 unelected justices don’t have the final say on our fundamental rights.
