The Pro-Life movement in Texas is stronger than ever in 2019 with record levels of grassroots engagement, Pro-Life student activism, and local governments standing up to ban abortions. However, none of this momentum is from our State Legislature.
Republicans had a disappointing, purple legislative session this year characterized by squandered opportunities and duplicitous House leadership. The Pro-Life Scorecard is the best tool to show what happened in your State Capitol building.
Today, Texas Right to Life released the Pro-Life Scorecard for the Regular Session of the 86th Texas Legislature.

Good, bad, or ugly, the Pro-Life Scorecard shows how your legislators supported or subverted life-saving efforts this legislative session. Unfortunately, when we look at the House, the story is mostly an ugly one.
In general, the scores for Republican legislators are dismally and unacceptably low – mostly because Republican leadership of the Texas House failed to use their Pro-Life majority to pass a single bill that would directly ban elective abortion or euthanasia. While disgraced Speaker Dennis Bonnen, who thankfully will be retiring soon, deserves the majority of the blame, few elected officials stood up to Bonnen and his leadership team when the movement depended on them this year.
The Pro-Life Scorecard reflects this disappointing reality.

During the Regular Session of the 86th Texas Legislature, the line in the sand was clearly drawn: Save the lives of vulnerable preborn children and hospital patients in Texas, or cast them aside to maintain political power. Far too many of our elected officials ended the session on the wrong side of that line.
