John -

For decades, fossil fuel companies have used public relations (PR) firms
to fabricate their image, protect their reputation, greenwash their
activities, and spread disinformation to the public.

These PR firms operate in the shadows, but they are a key element of Big
Oil’s success in deceiving the public and stopping any progress on climate
action. It’s time to bring them out of the shadows and put a face to their
deception.

The world’s largest PR firm, Edelman, is one of the top offenders – taking
$439.7 million from the American Petroleum Institute (the U.S.’s largest
oil and gas trade group) all while claiming they promote ‘climate-friendly
values.'^1

In 2015, the firm promised to stop working with the coal industry. But new
reporting revealed that the PR giant broke its promise and received over
$3 million from the National Mining Association, one of the largest
lobbying groups for the coal industry.^2

Edelman can’t keep promoting their ‘climate-friendly values’ while doing
Big Oil’s bidding behind closed doors. [ [link removed] ]Will you sign the petition
calling on Edelman to cut their ties with the National Mining Association
and the rest of their oil and gas clients?

After Edelman received renewed calls from the climate movement to drop
their fossil fuel clients in January, CEO Richard Edelman released a list
of new climate principles for the agency.^3

But what Edelman didn’t do was commit to dropping their fossil fuel
industry clients — making this just another piece of empty PR.

If Edelman wants to take "meaningful action” towards the climate crisis,
they can’t profit from spreading lies on behalf of the oil and gas
industry.

And if they won’t act solely out of the interest of a livable world, our
movement will get them to act from our pressure.

[ [link removed] ]We need to increase the pressure on the PR giant in order for them to
drop NMA and all of their oil and gas industry clients. Will you sign our
petition to Edelman today?

Our people-power speaks louder than the oil industry’s pockets. Every
signature shows Edelman that one more person is watching and paying
attention to their actions.

Together, we’ll make sure Edelman is only the first of many PR agencies to
drop their oil and gas clients.

In solidarity,

Team 350

P.S. We need to show Edelman that we’re watching their next move. [ [link removed] ]Will
you send a message to Edelman on Twitter today?
