We all deserve to have what we need to survive and live healthy lives.

To prioritize what is most important to you and your community, your lawmakers need to hear from you often! This year’s sixty-day Legislative Session is going by fast and these two important bills are close to getting a vote in the House before the deadline next Tuesday, February 15 to move to the Senate 🏛

House Bill 1412: Stop the debt trap from Legal Financial Obligations (LFOs)
Nearly every person convicted in a Washington court receives a bill for LFOs at sentencing, which can include the cost of a public defender and a charge for each day spent in jail. HB 1412 would give judges more discretion to waive costs and limit the timeline on collections so we can all have a chance to reach financial stability regardless of a conviction.

House Bill 2048: Expand access to help for families through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program
This bill would permanently end a racist policy that cuts off Black, Indigenous, and Latin@ families from help through TANF at higher rates and would make sure children of undocumented caregivers aren’t cut off because of their family’s immigration status. We should all be able to get help when we need it!
