Dear John

A lot is happening this month around female genital mutilation (FGM). February is the month of Zero Tolerance Day for FGM, and there has been both sad news and good news:

Following yet another tragic death in Sierra Leone due to FGM, 130 women’s rights organizations from 34 countries around the world, including Equality Now, came together to co-sign an open letter calling on the Government of Sierra Leone to criminalize FGM and protect women and girls from this harmful practice, prompting a ground-breaking response from the Speaker of Parliament.  This is a true illustration of how collective action can have an impact!

But collective action is not all that’s happening! The use of the Multi-Sectoral Approach (MSA) can be an effective tool for catalyzing efforts towards the elimination of FGM. To explore this topic further, we’re inviting you to join us for two important events:
First, on February 10th, in collaboration with UNFPA, an event on how partnerships with state actors are vital to ending FGM at the community, county, and national level:

When? February 10th, 2022
Time: 8.30am to 10am EST

Second, on February 16th, we have invited women’s rights activists, survivors, and human rights practitioners for an in-depth discussion on why anti-FGM laws are still needed, and how involving stakeholders from multiple sectors can have a major impact in eliminating FGM.

Language interpretation will be available in English, Arabic, and French.

When? February 16th, 2022
Time: 5pm EAT; 2pm GMT; 9am EST

We look forward to seeing you at both of these exciting events!
