Municipal Community Wellness and Harm Reduction Grants
In partnership with the Provincial Overdose Emergency Response Centre (OERC) and the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions, we are offering funding for Community Wellness & Harm Reduction Grants.
Funding is available for
municipalities and regional districts who propose harm reduction projects or initiatives focused on a range of support services and strategies designed to enhance the knowledge, skills, resources and supports for individuals, families and communities to be safer, healthier and more inclusive. Collaboration with local community-based organizations, local First Nations communities and Indigenous service providers is encouraged.
Funding ranges from
$15,000 to $50,000 per community as determined by identified need and size of municipality.

Q&A with Malcolm Tourangeau and Chris Livingstone
This month, Malcolm Tourangeau and Chris Livingstone joined us at the CAI office to answer questions about their work as members of CAI’s Overdose Prevention and Education Network (OPEN) Evaluation Steering Committee (ESC).
Formed in 2019, the ESC grew from a significant finding in OPEN’s 2018 Phase 2 evaluation which identified that coalitions in the network recognize the importance of centering the role of peers in overdose prevention and response work. Findings also suggest that harm reduction efforts became more widespread in locations where coalitions are active, and where coalitions exist, community awareness of the overdose crisis increased.
We asked Malcolm and Chris to answer questions related to their work with OPEN and the ESC.

PHABC Conference 2019 – Simplifying Complexity: Public Health Approaches & Practice to Complex Systems

This year’s theme will build on that of our annual summer school, “Simplifying Complexity: Public Health Approaches & Practice in Complex Systems,” and will explore sub-themes of food systems & security, immunization & infectious disease control, wicked problems in health equity, and overdose response and safe supplies.
The PHABC conference provides the opportunity for professionals throughout the province to meet, mingle, and learn through a unique combination of keynote presentations, case studies, symposia and hands-on workshops. The conference aims to teach attendees how to identify complex systems in their work using complex adaptive systems thinking while simultaneously showcasing innovative and collaborative methods of promoting health at the population level.
