In the past few days alone, we've seen stories about:

• A "rape club" at the Dublin federal prison in California, where it was an open secret that women were being sexually abused by guards;
• The inexplicable death of a 45-year-old man from hypothermia in a Dauphin County Prison in Pennsylvania; and
• A week-long lockdown of all federal prisons because of two killings and uncontrolled violence in the U.S. Penitentiary in Beaumont, Texas.

But none of this is really new. It's been going on for years — and COVID-19 has only made things worse.

Our state and federal prisons are hellholes that operate without any accountability. They ignore requests for basic information from family members and lawmakers alike. This needs to end — and we need your help to end it.
