For perspective, if the federal debt were paid down right now, every man, woman, and child in the U.S. would owe the federal government over $90,000. But in reality, the burden per American taxpayer is even higher than that since children don’t pay taxes, nor do the poor.

When the government debt bill is due, we will all be held responsible.

New Study Shows Inefficacy of COVID-19 Lockdowns

A new Johns Hopkins study published this week found that COVID-19 lockdowns towards the beginning of the pandemic had “little to no effect” on the COVID-19 mortality rate and “should be rejected out of hand as a pandemic policy.” If anything, the shelter-in-place orders and forced limiting of gatherings outdoors may have actually “increased” the death rate by requiring people to stay at home with vulnerable family members, the authors argued. Read more.

Surprising Jobs Report Signals a Resilient Workforce

On February 4, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that 467,000 jobs were added in January, beating expectations. The overall unemployment rate ticked up 0.1 percentage points to 4%. The unemployment rate for women held steady at 3.6%. Labor force participation also increased to 62.2%, a level not seen since March 2020. Read more.
