John, the dynamics of this race have been fundamentally altered. 

 

The campaign arm for Congressional Democrats, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) just shifted our district, IL-17, to a “District in Play.” 

 

This means our toss-up district is now one of the key flashpoints within the Democrat’s overarching strategy to hold the House this 2022.

Playing into the DCCC’s decision to escalate this race is the fact that IL-17 is one of only seven districts that voted for Trump in the 2020 presidential election while being held by a Democratic representative. That Democrat, Congresswoman Bustos, is retiring at the end of her term so it’s time for us to step up and make sure we hold on to this seat.

 

Our campaign is well positioned to win this race but we are going to need your help if we are going to weather the massive GOP push to flip this seat red. Like many rural districts, Democrats are behind in organizing within IL-17 and we need to start preparing now. Can you help us build up our rural organizing capacity and chip in whatever you can?

IL-17 is a make it or break it for the Democrats 2022 strategy, and winning or losing this seat will have massive implications for both Western Illinois and the nation. The fate of policies such as - universal health care, voting rights, climate justice, recreational cannabis, common sense gun policy, and so much more - lies in the balance of maintaining the Democrats razor-thin majority in the House, and holding IL-17 is imperative to this.

 

To hold on to this seat and elect Jackie - a working class, people-first, dirt road Democrat - we must act quickly. 

 

The DCCC can and will go all in to help us win this race but we have to show them that we are rolling with the punches and staying on track with the fundraising goals they need us to hit.
