The Supreme Court just made a huge announcement: They are refusing to shield Remington Arms Co. -- a major gun manufacturer -- from liability for the Sandy Hook massacre.
This is HUGE.
Some background: The parents of the Sandy Hook victims are suing Remington for their marketing of the AR-15 style weapon that was used in the shooting. In marketing materials for the gun, Remington proclaimed “Forces of opposition, bow down. You are single-handedly outnumbered.” …...which is extremely disturbing, to say the least. So the parents of Sandy Hook took them on for marketing the weapon in a way that makes it sound like it could -- and should -- be used for murdering people. These parents are taking on a big fight, and now they will have their day in court. We are proud to stand with them.
That’s why our Peace Plan calls for the repeal of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), which grants broad legal immunity for gun manufacturers and their lobbyists. PLCAA is an injustice that takes away a form of redress for survivors and victims' families. We must repeal it -- and this news is a great first step in that fight.
The fight against the NRA, gun manufacturers, and lobbyists to get weapons of war off our streets is growing stronger everyday. And with your help, we will win.
Thanks,
David Hogg
