Folks, when I say old battles are becoming new again, this is exactly what I mean:

In January, a federal court blocked Alabama’s proposed congressional map citing the need for a second majority-minority district to fairly reflect the state’s electorate, which is 27% Black.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court blocked this ruling, effectively ensuring the continued gerrymandering of Alabama’s district maps — diluting the votes of Black Alabamians.

This is just the latest in an increasing number of attacks against the right to vote since 2013, when the Supreme Court struck down crucial components of the Voting Rights Act.

We cannot sit idly by while our sacred right to vote continues to be stripped away — and I’m once again calling on Congress to enact my bill, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act, to restore federal oversight and ensure the right to vote is secured for future generations.

Passing federal protections for voting rights is more important than ever, and Congress needs to act now to ensure all citizens can exercise their sacred right to vote. Will you sign on to my petition and stand with me in the fight to defend voting rights?
