Waterkeeper Alliance Receives UNEP Accreditation

Waterkeeper Alliance has received accreditation from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). UNEP works closely with representatives from civil society, businesses, and other major groups and stakeholders to address environmental challenges through the UN Environment Assembly, the world’s highest-level decision-making body on the environment. The accreditation supports our mission to protect everyone’s right to clean water by leveraging the collective knowledge, expertise, and experience of more than 300 Waterkeeper groups and advocates who patrol and protect rivers, lakes, and coastal waterways in more than 45 countries.

"I feel personal responsibility for its waters and the rivers that flow into it. All that the land and sea gave me when I was a child, I’ve spent my adult life giving back, educating or fighting those who don’t care, and trying to be an effective advocate.” Bill Lucey has been the Long Island Soundkeeper since 2017, but the organization’s inception dates back three decades to 1987, which makes it one of the earliest Waterkeeper groups in the world.

American Climate Leadership Summit 2022

Waterkeeper Alliance is proud to endorse ecoAmerica's 11th annual American Climate Leadership Summit (ACLS 2022) this March. 2022 presents new opportunities for climate solutions, but to build the political resolve for action we need a broader diversity of Americans to stand with us. ACLS 2022 is designed to ensure that all climate leaders, especially community-focused leaders, are empowered with the connections and tools they need to take action.
