Let me set the stage…
- I was in 8th grade at Leesville Middle School in Wake County
- Bill Clinton was running for President
- Jim Hunt was running for his third term as Governor
I didn’t know what it meant to be a member of Congress at the time, but… I mean… I did know that Terry Sanford and David Price were also running for office that year. Little did I know that those two public servants would become my political idols…
Team, have you ever heard the phrase “you need to see it to dream it?” Well that describes my first encounter with Congressman Price. Fun fact… he was the first politician I ever met. Frankly, meeting him opened my eyes. I saw a public servant who cared about showing up. It didn’t take long for me to pick up the phone myself and ask Congressman Price to come speak to my middle school class.
That class visit changed my life. I was inspired. I’m sure if my mom found our old IBM PS1 computers, you would find 13 year old Clay’s Print Shop designed congressional campaign posters.
I’m honored to pick up the baton from David Price and hopefully inspire others with our campaign. Today, I’m asking you to get involved. Find and use your voice on our campaign.

It’s a real honor to run for office in the place where I first became interested in politics and where I first found my voice. I am ready to show up for our community the way that David Price taught me to all those years ago. Will you join me?
