Research for Action at 30: Three decades of research IN action

Thirty years ago, Research for Action was founded in Philadelphia to conduct applied research to inform local education decision-making and improve policy and practice. In the decades that have followed, we have built a national reputation for producing rigorous and nuanced mixed-methods research and evaluations, designed to advance educational equity, and disseminated in formats accessible to practitioners, policymakers, families, and communities.

That history is one that I’m honored to build on as I enter my first full year as Executive Director of RFA. It’s also a history I celebrate, especially the accomplishments of the remarkable women who led the organization before me—Drs. Jolley Bruce Christman, Eva Gold, and Kate Shaw—and our many alumni who have contributed their talents and expertise to advance RFA’s mission.

We have many exciting and impactful efforts underway to commemorate this important anniversary, and to showcase the ways RFA has grown in influence and impact. You can start by clicking through to our new website for a curated glance at what we are up to now, at 30.

Thank you so much for sharing in our successes and growth. More than ever, I appreciate your continued support and collective work toward racial and social justice through more equitable education policies, schools, and systems.

As our 30th year unfolds, we look forward to connecting with you—in person or virtually—in the coming weeks and months.

In partnership,
Kate
