News from Representative Allred

February 8, 2022

Dear Friend,

Great news for North Texas! Another round of federal funding is headed our way to help reduce congestion around the Dallas area. As part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that I helped pass into law, we secured $61 million in federal funding to grow and improve our public transit options.

As someone who grew up in North Texas, I’ve seen our region’s population outgrow our existing infrastructure – so we must make more transportation options available and improve existing ones. This funding will be put to work in North Texas to ease congestion, create jobs and grow our economy.

Rep. Allred announces federal funding to improve public transit options like DART.

This first round of funding will improve North Texas transit systems like DART and will:

  • Help communities make transit safer and more efficient, funding new buses and rail cars, track and station repairs and other safety initiatives.

  • Ensure Dallas transit systems are in a state of good repair, improving reliability by rehabilitating trains and buses, tracks, power systems and transit stations.

  • Upgrade bus fleets and repair old buses and bus facilities.

  • Support transit for seniors and persons with disabilities, funding key resources such as wheelchair lifts, mobility management programs and accessible transit vehicles.
As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I worked with my colleagues in both parties to bring the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to the President’s desk. I hosted US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg in Dallas last year to show him how beneficial infrastructure funding could be to our region. North Texas is also receiving funds to repair our bridges and upgrade DFW Airport and Love Field Airport as part of the package. Trust me, as someone who has sat for hours in traffic on 75, I look forward to watching these investments payoff around North Texas.

Sincerely,
