The Bureau of Land Management recently announced the withdrawal of 351,000 acres of land from oil and gas leasing over the next 20 years within a 10-mile radius around Chaco Culture National Historical Park.
While this is a promising step, frontline and indigenous communities in the region have already suffered from the long-term impacts of drilling and fracking — more greenhouse gas emissions, pollution, contaminated water and the destruction of the land. That’s why Food & Water Action is fighting to end all fossil fuel extraction on federal lands and cut Big Oil’s stranglehold on our energy future.
President Biden promised to end drilling and fracking on public lands during his 2020 campaign. But instead, his administration has continued the approval of leases for oil and gas exploration across the U.S. – even outpacing Trump’s leasing in his first year in office. This can’t go on!
Biden’s actions showcase yet again his failure to fulfill his campaign promise to ban fracking on public lands. We’re going to keep fighting until he follows through, but we can’t do any of our work without your support.
Will you join the fight to protect Chaco Canyon and all public lands by making a gift to Food & Water Action today? Now is the time to do the right thing. There won’t be any second chances. There aren’t many options on the table: We can either rise up and permanently stop all oil and gas drilling on public lands, including in the Chaco region, or we can let Big Oil & Gas destroy the public lands we all cherish so much.
Food & Water Action has decided to rise and we hope you will join us now!
Food & Water Action and its affiliated organization, Food & Water Watch, are advocacy groups with a common mission to protect our food, water and climate.
