Folks,

February is Black History Month, and I wanted to take a moment for some reflection.

Black leaders and organizers are at the center of the American story. Leaders like Harriet Tubman, Ida B. Wells, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., John Lewis, Bayard Rustin, Marsha P. Johnson, and so many others have stood on the side of justice and have been an enduring force for change in our country.

The fight for justice and equity is far from over. Systemic racism remains ingrained in our institutions, and far too many Black Americans experience disparities in every sphere of life, from health care to affordable housing to voting.

Our governments at the local, state, and federal levels have critical work to do addressing these systematic issues. But the work doesn’t begin or end there. It needs to happen every day of the year, year after year, in every part of our lives – as voters, at school and work, with our families and friends, in our places of worship.

Please join me in taking concrete action today by calling your elected officials and asking them to pass voting rights legislation.
