Kate the elephant was just two years old when she was taken from the wild in India.

Her mother dead, she was orphaned and was bought from a trader by a UK zoo. She endured a weeks-long journey across the Indian ocean to spend her years as a captive.

At the zoo the elephants were made to perform circus-style tricks in order to please the paying public. We exposed how the zookeepers used metal goads and even electric prods to control the elephants and make them do what they wanted.

Thankfully these circus-style shows came to an end, after years of campaigning. But sadly, Kate still remains behind bars.

She needs your help to fight for her and the other elephants kept captive in zoos.
