Tell the Planning Commission that we need real 4plex solutions

Our housing affordability crisis demands real solutions, but unfortunately there are two fourplex bills coming up this week that fall short. Please take one minute to send an email to the San Francisco Planning Commission asking them to oppose the faux fourplex bills being heard on Thursday.

While these bills are well-intentioned, the rules being proposed in these bills would prevent almost anyone from turning a house into a fourplex. We're not the only ones saying this—the SF Planning Department agrees with us in their analysis:

It is unlikely that property owners would choose to use either one of the programs proposed under these ordinances.”

The bills being heard, written by Supervisors Safaí and Mar respectively, would each add strict requirements to potential fourplex projects, including minimum lot size, rear yard setbacks, expensive design standards, and subsidies for affordable housing that homeowners can't afford. We support building 100% subsidized affordable housing, and that goal won't be achieved by creating programs which will go unused.

Please make plans to call into Thursday's Planning Commission hearing at 1 PM, where these bills will be discussed. We can send you talking points—please fill out this form. You can dial in at 415-655-0001, with access code 2492 235 0478.

If you won't be able to make it on Thursday, then please send an email to the Planning Commission—it'll only take a minute.
