Today, First Liberty filed a charge of discrimination at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on behalf of our client Robyn Strader.
CVS Pharmacy fired Robyn—a nurse practitioner with multiple advanced degrees—because the company wants to force its employees to prescribe contraceptives no matter what.
For six and half years, CVS accommodated Robyn’s religious beliefs without a problem. On the very few occasions someone requested contraception, Robyn referred patients to another practitioner at her location or to another clinic located just a couple miles away.
But CVS reversed course late last year, joining the ranks of the “woke” corporate culture. The company stated it would no longer honor religious accommodations related to pregnancy prevention services.
Soon after this policy was put in place, CVS fired Robyn.
CVS’s actions are illegal. Firing a compassionate and experienced healthcare professional because of her faith is the wrong prescription. There’s no legitimate reason for the company to go back on its word and force Robyn to choose between her faith and her livelihood.
Federal law requires employers to accommodate an employee’s religious beliefs if the accommodation would not cause the employer an undue burden. Employers may not fire, demote, refuse a promotion, or otherwise take any adverse action, against employees because of their religious beliefs.
From the boardroom to the break room, radical ideologues are gaining control of corporate America and they’re out to purge anyone with a dissenting point of view. That’s why we urgently need your support.
Together, we can deliver a victory for Robyn and for millions of religious workers who face career-ending threats because of their beliefs. Please make a timely donation to First Liberty today and help us win this critical case.
