February Monthly Meeting: Testify! A Workshop for 350BK Members
February 10th, 7:30 pm EST
Testimony before a legislative or administrative body is one of the most effective ways people can affect public policy. Powerful testimony combines personal witness with key factual information. Come to a workshop in developing our own stories. New York State is currently calling on people to testify about its efforts to develop a road map for climate action during the coming years and we'll want to turn out for that. Learn how to testify with confidence! Register for the meeting here.
Action for families to take at home!
In 2019, New York State enacted an ambitious law, the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, and a detailed plan is in the works to ensure that the goals of the law become reality. There's one thing missing - money! Along with our partners at NY Renews, 350Brooklyn Families has started a statewide effort to engage families -- kids, parents, grandparents and other caregivers -- in sending letters and drawings to legislative leaders calling on them to provide the climate funding we need. Our kids' future is at stake, so take action with them! Go to: bit.ly/Kidsfor15B
Rally to Ban Gas in New Buildings!
Thursday, February 17, noon. Sheraton Times Square, 811 7th Avenue
The NYS Democratic Party is coming to town and we want them to pass legislation banning fossil fuels in new buildings. The All Electric Buildings bill is part of our Climate Can't Wait 2020 package. Let Governor Hochul and our Albany legislators know that Climate Can't Wait! Sign up for the rally here.
We are Forming District Teams for Decarbonizing District by District!
Sign up here to be alerted when there are specific needs for help in YOUR DISTRICT (e.g., constituent calls, closing down fossil fuel projects, pushing for electric school bus infrastructure, tweeting, op-eds, etc.). We want to know where the fossil fuel emissions are in your neighborhood so we can work with you to stop them and put New York City on the path to a renewable future!
Join Our Climate Podcast Team!
Over the past year a 350Brooklyn team has produced some truly marvelous podcasts, each one of which has an interview with someone who describes a local climate-related problem and then its solutions. They’ve got lots more podcasts in the works but could use some extra hands. Do you have audio engineering skills and can help with mastering and editing? Or can you help research topics for new episodes or have ideas for marketing? We really want to build an audience for this great series! Are you interested in getting involved in any capacity? Then email us at [email protected].
Start the New Year Off with Real Action—Join the Power Hour Team!
Just have an hour or two a week to fight the good fight? No problem!
Join us on Mondays and Wednesdays 12-1pm for Power Hour where we call, tweet, and email our reps to push for specific climate legislation. Monday, February 7th we will continue with the All-Electric Buildings Act joined by Alex Beauchamp from Food and Water Watch for a brief overview.
Wednesday, February 9, 12-1 join us for a special Power Hour where we'll discuss a new campaign aimed at ensuring the Adams administration fully implements Local Law 97, New York's most important tool for fighting climate breakdown. We will devote the last 10 minutes to calling our Councilmembers about LL97. Join Power Hour HERE.
Climate Can't Wait 2022: A Great Kickoff!
The Climate Can't Wait 2022 group of almost 40 organizations--including 350Brooklyn--had a great launch on January 25. Our objective is to get a package of twelve bills passed by the NYS Legislature and signed by the Governor by mid-June. We kicked off the campaign with three live actions, including one that drew some 200 people to Governor Hochul's Manhattan office, and a blizzard of phone calls to key leaders. Governor Hochul got over 700 calls, Senate Majority leader Stewart-Cousins got over 500, and Assembly Speaker Heastie got MORE than 400. A phenomenal day! They all know what we want now! But we're going to keep up the pressure all spring. Want to stay informed? Sign up on the Climate Can't Wait 2022 website.
