Compare and contrast the questions, opinions, and dissents in a series of Supreme Court cases to define when the clauses do and do not limit government action. Lee will also discuss his career as a professor and writer, and answer questions from participants. Civil War and Reconstruction: The Battle for Freedom and Equality Virtual Tour Monday, February 14, 12 p.m. ET Join us for a live guided tour of Civil War and Reconstruction: The Battle for Freedom and Equality. Learn how constitutional clashes over slavery set the stage for the Civil War, and how the nation transformed the Constitution after the war during the Reconstruction period, taking a close look at the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments. Along the way, your guide will highlight the stories of people like Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Tubman, and other figures central to the conflict over slavery. You will also get an up-close look at special artifacts on display. Register here. MLK, the Declaration, and the Constitution In this episode of the We the People podcast, we examine Martin Luther King Jr.'s thinking about the relationship between the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution through a close reading and analysis of some of his most significant speeches and writings. The Fights for Abolition and Women's Rights In this Live at the National Constitution Center podcast, Dorothy Wickenden and Thavolia Glymph discuss the early days of the abolition movement and the fight for women’s rights, the complicated relationship between the two movements, and heroes like Harriet Tubman who served as leaders. For Educators Constitutional Conversations: Building the Foundations for Dialogue and Deliberation in the Classroom Wednesday, February 9, 6:30 – 8 p.m. ET Deepen your constitutional knowledge and enhance your strategies for fostering civil dialogue around constitutional questions with this workshop series presented by the National Constitution Center and hosted by the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation. This series is scheduled for each Wednesday in February. Join us for some or all of the series.
