Friend,
Today, the Supreme Court is hearing cases that could determine the fate of Dreamers across America. It matters to me because I am a DACA recipient, otherwise known as a “Dreamer.” Although I grew up in plain sight of the Statue of Liberty in New Jersey, I lived in constant fear of deportation from the only country that I have called home since I was 9 years old.
Authorized by President Obama in June 2012 after years of congressional inaction, DACA stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. DACA is a safeguard from deportation and for the past seven years, it has enabled me to come out of the shadows to support my family, organize the Asian American community in New York City, help build the coalition for the inaugural Women’s March on Washington, and work to elect Tom Steyer to be the next president of the United States. But now, my information is in the hands of a corrupt administration that looks to white nationalism and extremism as its guiding light.
No matter what Donald Trump says, my home is here in the United States.
That’s why I’m headed to the Supreme Court today to join thousands of other Dreamers and represent Tom and the campaign. Tom knows that our lives are not pawns for politicians. Through NextGen America and on his own, as a community organizer and Democratic activist, Tom has been vocal about supporting immigrants and efforts to stop deportations.
Towards our shared American dream,
Tony
P.S. I’m taking over the #TeamTom Twitter at
@TomHQ today from the rally at the Supreme Court! Follow along with me and other Dreamers as we make our voices heard.
