John,

I know the power of a quality education. With my community’s support, I was able to attend Howard University and New York University. I was able to earn a law degree and gain the tools I needed to advocate for our communities.

But I had to take on nearly $500k in student loan debt to do it.

Everywhere you look, our education system is riddled with inequities, large and small. Our teachers are mistreated and underpaid. Our schools are under-resourced. And young people are starting their lives under the burden of massive student loan debt.

Having fought my way through our education system and come out the other side as an attorney, an organizer, and an advocate, I’m fighting to make sure that the students who come after me have the same opportunities to succeed — but in a system that propels them forward instead of holding them back.

That’s why I have a bold, aggressive plan for education reform. That’s why I’ll fight for tuition-free college for low-income households, push for student loan debt forgiveness, work to end the school-to-prison pipeline, oppose the expansion of private charter schools, and support collective bargaining rights for our teachers.

And that’s why I’m building a progressive movement to defeat a do-nothing incumbent who’s failed our communities on critical issues from education to environmental protection. Stand with me in the fight for equitable education. Click here to donate $10 and support our movement. [[link removed]]

My opponent, Rep. Donald Payne Jr., has made it clear that he doesn’t see equitable and accessible education as a priority. He’s failed to cosponsor bills that would keep girls in school, improve oversight of charter schools, and allow Dreamer students to receive federal financial aid.

We’re stuck in an endless cycle — year after year, our education system perpetuates and deepens the inequalities that plague our communities. And Rep. Payne Jr. refuses to take action to stop it.

So I will, John. It’s time that we had a representative who showed up for us on the issues that affect us most. If you agree, click here to chip in $10 right now and help us win this race. [[link removed]]

Thank you for standing with me.

— Imani
