Ilhan for Congress

With a new year brings new congressional district lines.

In Michigan, for the first time, our district lines were drawn by an independent commission rather than gerrymandered by our Republican-controlled legislature. This has resulted in my current congressional district―MI-13―being split between two new districts, with nearly two-thirds of my current constituents falling into the new 12th district.

For this reason, and after much deliberation with my residents and my family, I am excited to announce that I will be running for re-election this year in what will now be Michigan’s 12th Congressional District.

This new district will have more residents than our current district, so we will need more resources to reach out to more people during our grassroots re-election campaign.

This also means that each congressional race will be much more competitive. As a representative from the Brennan Center for Justice said, “Michigan’s a jump ball, and this is a jump-ball map”—referring to the toss-up ball marking the beginning of a basketball game.¹

I need your support in order to reach all voters in the new 12th District with our message of justice and equity, while continuing to deliver exceptional constituent services, introduce and pass transformative legislation that puts people and communities first, and hold exploitative corporations accountable.

Just last week, my sister in service, Ilhan Omar, also announced that she’s running for re-election to serve Minnesota’s 5th District to continue her work for progress. She is counting on your support as she prepares for a race that’s bound to be expensive, after her opponents as well as ultraconservative donors spent upwards of $20 million against her last cycle.

Can you split a donation of $5 or another amount today to help us power our campaigns in the months ahead?

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will be split between Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar immediately:

Together, our work will keep gaining momentum and our movement will grow stronger. We are building a world where our government works for the people—not corporations—and where we all can thrive for generations to come.

If you can, please split an early contribution to Ilhan and my re-election campaigns today to help us reach all corners of our districts and so we can stay in Congress fighting for you.

Always serving you,

Rashida
