Jack,
A recent study shows that the Republican restrictive voting laws passed in 2020 led to extreme levels of voter disenfranchisement. Unfortunately, we are still feeling the impacts to this day.
The GOP-supported law enacted in March 2021 limits the use of drop boxes, narrows the time frame voters have to request and return mail-in ballots, imposes new ID requirements, and prohibits election officials from sending unsolicited ballot applications to voters.
As a result, drop boxes in the four metro Atlanta counties decreased from 97 in 2020 to 23 in 2021. Georgians who voted by mail-in ballots in 2021 were twice as likely to have them rejected. These restrictive laws are strategically targeted at limiting the number of Democratic voters to have access to casting a ballot.
Georgia needs a champion in the Secretary of State's office to ensure that our elections are fair and accessible.
I'm the only Secretary of State candidate in the entire country with a cybersecurity background. My background and experience are crucial to ensuring that our elections are safe, secure, and free from threats - whether that's from bad actors or the Republican party.
Sincerely, Michael Owens
