Did you know that over one-third of college students struggle with food insecurity?
Ending food insecurity has always been one of my top priorities. From collaborating on food justice with Chairman Jim McGovern, to co-sponsoring a bill to create a hunger task force, to bringing attention to the issue of college hunger when I visited the Neumann University Food Pantry.
Thanks in part to pressure from Team MGS, the Department of Education has just announced that college students will have additional support meeting food insecurity needs! Under this new policy $200 million dollars from the American Rescue Plan will be spent to support students' basic needs including hunger, and schools will use the FAFSA data to communicate with students who qualify. This is a huge win for Pennsylvania’s college kids!
When I put my mind to something, I don’t stop until I get it done. My primary focus as your congresswoman is fighting for wins that will help you and your family.
But I can’t do it alone. We’re in an election year and we need all hands on deck to fight for the issues that matter. Here are two ways you can help:

No child or young adult should go hungry in the United States of America. I am so proud to be part of a team that fights to give children and young adults in Pennsylvania - and across the country - a better life.

P.S. If you or someone you know are facing food insecurity on a college campus, reach out to the school’s financial aid office to enroll in the new FAFSA food insecurity program.
