From July to December of last year, millions of families and children across the country received payments under the Child Tax Credit. In CA-53 alone, we returned more than $192 million to the families of 129,000 children. These payments were life-changing for so many families, enabling them to pay bills, buy household necessities, and plan for the future.
But the program ended in December, sending an estimated 10 million children back into poverty and leaving millions facing food insecurity. A short-term approach to tackling child poverty will never be enough; we have to reinstate the Child Tax Credit and make it permanent – to give working families the support they need and deserve.
That’s why I’m working every day to make these tax credits permanent — because it’s unacceptable to allow even a single kid to fall back into poverty.
But I want to be fully transparent — it’s an uphill battle. If Republicans take control of the House in 2022, a permanent Child Tax Credit and so many other programs that would benefit American families will never see the light of day. Between an already slim majority and ongoing redistricting in many states, Democrats can’t afford to lose a single seat if we’re going to keep the House blue in 2022 — including our district. Can you chip in today to support our campaign and ensure that I can keep up this work?

The Child Tax Credit is good for children, good for families, and good for our country. I won’t stop working to bring it back, and I’m glad to have you by my side.
Thank you,
Sara
