Last week, Maryland Matters published an Op-Ed I wrote titled, Democrats Lose 90% of Rural Counties in America. Here is why. In this article, I discuss the politics of forgotten communities and how the Democratic Party has ignored the rural voter for far too long.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal Coalition included the voices of the millions of hard-working rural Americans in counties like Somerset and Dorchester. In the last few decades, however, the Democrats have failed to reach these communities. Today, there is little evidence that the Democratic establishment understands these failures. Politicians endorsing politicians, party elites tipping the scales, political hacks who are “ahead of their time,” none of this works for rural folks. The result: the Democrats’ rural strategy has failed — election after election.
It’s time for a new coalition, one centering on democracy and opportunity in America. I'm running to bring renewed hope to our forgotten communities. Join us as we build a winning coalition that can build this economic future for working families across America. If that's a movement you can get behind, please consider chipping in $5 to my campaign today.
Check out the Op-Ed here.
Thanks,
Dave
